One of the smaller peacock basses, this species typically grows no more than 12" in aquaria. It can be recognized by a yellow-green body with black spotting or a combination of spotting and thick stripes. Tail and fins have yellow spotting accompanied by a large eye-like blotch on the tail.

One of the less commonly seen peacock bass species, this impressive species has a greenish-yellow body contrasted by a small horizontal band of black spotting. Similar to Cichla orinocensis, these specimens often have a large eye-spot on the base of their tail. Orange highlights on the tail and green highlights on the cheeks can be seen in older specimens.
